Fear Not Advent Series

Here’s another sermon series option for Advent! This series looks at the 4 people angels appeared to and said, “Fear not!” This was a fun series for our church because we used lots of angels in our decor and I read a section of the book Probity Jones And The Fear Not Angel by Walter Wangerin to the kids every week for Children’s Time.

I also have previously posted Calls to Worship for this series which you can find here: Fear Not 1, Fear Not 3, Fear Not 4

Below is the graphic we used to advertise the series as well as my favorite visual image of The Annunciation! Enjoy and happy Advent planning!

Call to Worship for Advent 4 ‘Fear Not’ series

Call to Worship for Advent 4 based on Luke 2:8-14
The Call
God sends angel messengers to earth
   to proclaim the good news:
God has not forgotten us, we are not alone,
God is coming to us in the form of a baby!
And the first to hear this incredible news
are people on the outside of polite society.
All of us have good news to share.
God, help us listen to each other despite our differences.

Call to Worship for Advent 3 for “Fear Not” series

Call to Worship for Advent 3 based on Matthew 1:18-25
The Call
God calls us and wakes us from our tired apathy.
God has a plan, don’t be afraid!
We are a part of the plan. God needs us,
Not to follow the rules, but to stand out in grace.
Others will judge us. We’ll feel like our lives are falling apart,
But God’s plan is growing and will soon come to life.
God, strengthen our faith, make us merciful and kind,
Stand with us when we stand out for you.

Call to Worship Advent 1 “Fear Not” series

Call to Worship for Advent 1 based on Luke 1:5-25
The Call
Today we begin the journey of Advent
   and fears abound.
There is so much darkness and it is so cold.
How will God ever turn our world around?
We gather now to warm and strengthen ourselves for the journey ahead.
God, you see our human fears and love us anyway.
God, you hear our worries and call us to do your work anyway.
Help us hear the angelic message, “Do not be afraid!”
