C2W for Overwhelmed by the World

Here is the Call to Worship I wrote for the last week of our Overwhelmed Sermon Series. This week’s focus is on being overwhelmed by the world and our scriptures are John 3:16-17 & 16:33.

The Call
God calls us to worship
and we come with images of fires and floods in our minds,
with hurting and worry in our hearts,
overwhelmed by all the bad news.
God calls us to worship to remind us goodness and life will always win
and God has already conquered this world.
God calls us to worship to revive us
for being agents of peace and justice in all places.

C2W for Overwhelmed by Clutter

Here is the Call to Worship I wrote for the fourth week of our Overwhelmed Sermon Series. This week’s focus is on being overwhelmed by clutter and our scriptures are Romans 12:1-2 and Ephesians 3:14-19.
The Call
God calls to us from beyond our cluttered thoughts
to a quiet place away from our cluttered lives.
God calls just for us,
we don’t need any of our stuff.
God calls us to calm our overwhelm and guide us step by step
to create peaceful order in our world.
god is bigger than mess

C2W for Overwhelmed by Busyness

Here is the Call to Worship I wrote for the third week of our Overwhelmed Sermon Series. This week’s focus is on being overwhelmed by busyness and our scripture is Luke 10:38-42, the story of Mary and Martha.

The Call
We come today, busy
with full schedules and furrowed brows.
We come here to worship
in between the family gatherings and errands
this is just one thing on our list for today.
   Slow us down God.
Remind us that for now, only one thing is needed
to be still in your presence.

C2W for Overwhelmed by Worry

Here is the Call to Worship I wrote for the second week of our Overwhelmed Sermon Series. This week’s focus is on being overwhelmed by worry and our scripture is Matthew 6:25-34.

The Call
The world outside worries us.
The worlds inside our homes, and our heads, and our hearts spin with anxiety.
Christ call us to the quiet center.
We come to worship and receive God’s peace.
We come to remember how to trust our Creator.
Let us worship our God who is caring for us right now.
Image result for Matthew 6:34 stop worrying about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself

C2W for Overwhelmed by Expectation

Here is the Call to Worship I wrote for the first week of our Overwhelmed Sermon Series. This week’s focus is on being overwhelmed by expectation and our scripture is Micah 6:6-8.

The Call
God calls all of us children to rest and worship.
If God’s calling we better look our best!
And smile!
   And not be late!
And the kids better behave.
And don’t forget the food bank donations!
And.. and.. and..
God is calling all of us children to rest and worship.
All God asks is for us to show up, ready to receive and then to go back into the world
to do justice, show mercy, and humbly walk with God.

Pentecost 2017 Communion Liturgy & Call to Worship

 pentecost cover

The Day of Pentecost will soon be here! This year at my church we’re celebrating Pentecost by having a birthday party for The Church! And since we’re having a party we’ve declared June 4th ‘bring a friend to church Sunday’!

I love that Pentecost falls on a Communion Sunday for us this year. Celebrating Holy Communion seems like the best way to remember and celebrate the birth of Christ’s Church. If you’re looking for a Communion liturgy for Pentecost (with modern language) I’ve got you covered: Pentecost 2017 Communion Liturgy

I’ve also included the Call to Worship we’re using below.
Enjoy celebrating the Spirit this Sunday!

The Call
The day of Pentecost has arrived!
And we are all gathered together in one place
ready to remember and celebrate the birthday of Christ’s Church
and to receive again the gift of the Holy Spirit!
God, bless us that we will truly be Your Church,
on fire with Your Holy Spirit!
And work through us in all we do as a church
that we might truly be a gift to the world.

Call to Worship for Extravagant Generosity

I’m currently preaching a series on Robert Schnase’s book, Five Practices of Fruitful CongregationsThis week we’re on ‘Extravagant Generosity’ and I’m using 2 Corinthians 9:1-2, 5-11 as our scriptural focus.

The Call
Our God, Creator and Sustainer of all life
instructs us to give generously and cheerfully.
We come, giving the funds, time, and gifts God has given us
cheerfully and without hesitation or pressure,
Trusting that in our upside-down life of the Gospel,
our wealth is measured not by what we have but what we give away.
We give joyfully as an act of our faith trusting you great God,
to bless your church, your people, and your creation through our giving.
