Easter Sunrise Worship/Egg Hunt!

I hope I’m not the only one behind this year! I thought having finalized my plan for our an outdoor, socially distanced, no-singing, no-sermon(!) Easter Sunrise service others might still need some inspiration for a similar type service. All of my past sunrise services have included singing so without that option this year I wanted to still do something special. It involves a little prep work but nothing too hard! I decided, why not have an egg hunt even for the grown up! So you’ll need at least 8 plastic eggs, some candy if you choose, a printer, and scissors. In the worship plan you’ll see the first two pages are the very informal outline/script. The second two pages have the rest of the Luke 24 split into small readings and number. That’s what you’ll print and cut and put in the eggs along with candy if you choose. I also did some eggs with just candy. So after reading the first part of Luke’s Easter story I’ll instruct everyone to pick up and egg (or 2 depending on how many people come) and then anyone who has a paper in their egg will continue reading the Easter story in order. I’m hoping it will add some fun, interactive-ness so we don’t even notice there’s no singing!

I hope this helps with your last minute preparations! Have a wonderful Easter and a blessed Sabbath rest thereafter!

Maundy Thursday Taize Worship

Maundy Thursday is my favorite worship service of the Christian year! Yes, for me it even tops Christmas Eve and Easter. Jesus knew this was his last chance to show his friends God’s Truth and he does not disappoint! Teaching us what love is, giving us a new covenant open to everyone, sharing one last blessing with those he loved even though he knew they would soon desert him… that’s the good stuff.
This year, we used a Taize style worship for Ash Wednesday and it was so well received we decided to do it again for Holy Thursday. We’ll be holding this worship service around tables in our Community Room with candles and Communion elements on each table. The service includes the song By My Side from Godspell and a poem/reflection on Jesus’ foot washing by Rev. Carol Ferguson.

Ash Wednesday Taize Worship

Ash Wed Taize Worship

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent, known for fasting, penance, and contemplation. This year for Lent, we’re getting our souls in shape with my series called Cross Fit Faith. This Ash Wednesday service compliments that series but can also stand on its own.

Ash Wednesday already tends to be contemplative so I thought it would a great opportunity to introduce our congregation to Taize style worship. I’m planning on leading this simple service on guitar and we won’t use any bulletins, hymnals, or screens as these tend to be more distracting than helpful in this style of worship.

I will continue to post liturgies, calls to worship, and prayers for the Cross Fit Faith series. Be sure to subscribe if you don’t want to miss a post!

Happy almost Lent! And happy planning!

Feel free to use or adapt this service to your congregation’s needs. (click below to download the PDF)

Need a Sunrise worship service? Look no further! This is a short, simple, and fun Easter sunrise worship service. Music can be done with guitar, piano, or a cappella. I have loved sharing Cynthia Rylant’s poem every year but the best part is ending the service with a rousing rendition of Joy to the World! (Trust me, it works. And it’s awesome!)
